Awarded without open competition
Awarded without open competition. The buyer went directly to one or a few suppliers instead of advertising the contract. Procurement rules allow this only in specific cases, such as extreme urgency, when only one supplier can do the work, or for call-offs from an existing framework.

Description
The Trust anticipated approximately 3300 units of preloaded intra-ocular lenses per annum. In accordance with the NHSSC framework buying guidance, supplier selection was conducted based a combination of cost (per framework banded pricing and available discounts) and quality (clinical evaluations) to determine the most suitable preloaded IOL to meet the Trust's requirements.
